There once was a little girl who went to
Her mother and said
“Why am I bad?  Why does no one love me?”
And the mother turned to the little girl and
With contempt said
“Because you are so ugly and vile of course”
The little girl thanked her mother for now
She knew the reason

There once was a teenaged girl who went to
Her mother and said
“Why don’t people like me?  Am I bad?”
And the mother turned to the teenaged girl and
With shame said
“Because you are so fat and repulsive of course”
The teenaged girl thanked her mother for now
She knew the reason

There once was an adult girl who went to
Her mother and said
“Why do I feel so bad? Can’t people just like me?”
And the mother turned to the adult girl and
With surprise said
“Because you are so cold and distant of course”
The adult girl thanked her mother for now
She knew the reason

There once was and elderly woman who went to
Her daughter and said
“Why don’t you love me?  Was I so bad?”
And the daughter turned to the elderly woman and
With strength said
“Because you were so cruel and thoughtless of course”
The elderly woman said nothing  to her daughter for she still
Saw no reason
